Former Teacher

Teacher, Brian Reedy was a teacher at Carson High School from 1998 to 2014. Initially he was brought to Carson High School as an English Teacher. While teaching English, he also developed a video production class. Eventually he moved out of English and taught video production and computer literacy. In 2007 he started teaching the photography classes while also teaching video production. In 2011 he decided to only teach photography. Mr. Reedy always talks with his students about dealing with adversity. It’s an important part of why he is a teacher. He has had learning disabilities his entire life, and struggled in school. After graduating from college he was diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder). He uses his learning disabilities to help ALL of his students. Recently Mr. Reedy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Once again he is using his own adversity to teach students that there are choices, and there are positive choices when dealing with adversity. Mr. Reedy learned this best from his dear friends Charlie and Lucy Wedemeyer (who dealt with ALS in the most inspirational ways). In 2008 he developed symptoms from Parkinson’s Disease.  By 2011 he was diagnosed with it.  He taught as long as he could.  His last day in the classroom was November 2013.

Teacher Background in-depth

After growing up in a suburb outside of Chicago (La Grange, Ill), his family moved to Northern California when he was a junior in high school. From high school, Brian went in to the US Air Force where he was an Inflight refueling Specialist for the SR-71 (the world’s fastest spy plane at the time). Since it was such an elite aircraft he worked with, he was able to travel all around the country and the world. After four years of being in the service, he knew he needed a college degree to have a more successful future. He went to Golden West College in Huntington Beach, CA for his first two years, then he transferred to a university. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications with an emphasis on Photography (photojournalism) from California State University Fullerton in 1987. During that time he worked at a photography store and later at a portrait studio. After five years in the LA Area, he moved to the Silicon Valley and as a technical writer, wrote computer books for various computer companies like Hewlett-Packard and IBM.

After doing that for five years, he did some traveling and ended up in Alaska where he had a job taking teens out on hiking, mountain biking, and sea kayaking adventures. From there he worked and went to college again. In 1995 received his Master of Arts Teaching degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He ended up doing his student teaching in Montana and then worked at Skyview High School for three years. From there he was recruited to Carson High School, where he has been since 1998.  Mr Reedy is married to the most amazing woman and has two wonderful step-children who are remarkable young men making their own way in the world.
